Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What happens if a student doesn't turn in assignments? Those assignments can count against the student's class grade if they are not completed. Communicate with teachers if you are having problems with directions or Internet connections.

  • I'm having trouble finding which assignments I need to do in Google Classroom. Go to your Classroom page and choose a class (Parents, ask your student to go to the Classroom on their school device if you want to look). Click on the CLASSWORK tab at the top, then click the VIEW YOUR WORK tab at the top of the next screen, and then at the left you can choose ASSIGNED, GRADED, or MISSING to view lists of work for that class. Click here for instructions with pictures.

  • How can I contact teachers? If you are on school email, just start typing in the teacher's name and it should pop up in the suggestions. Teacher emails are last name first initial @usd419.org. All teacher names are listed on the Faculty Page. You can also send teachers a message using Hangouts Chat, which should be accessible from a school Chromebook. Click the + sign and type the teacher email to send a message invite. Another option is to call your school office: 620-345-3321 for Elementary and 620-628-4401 for Jr./Sr. High.

  • What if I'm a high school student enrolled in Edgenuity classes? Edgenuity classes have not changed from how they were before. Students are responsible for completing the work necessary to get credit for the class.

  • What if my school Chromebook, tablet, or charger isn't working correctly? Email the technology coordinator at cgtech@usd419.org or call one of the school offices.

  • I'm having trouble attaching photos or videos to assignments on my Chromebook. If you have a smart phone, download the Google Classroom app. It is free and will allow you to click on your class, the specific assignment, and add an attachment directly from your camera's photo/video roll. If that doesn't solve your problem, contact the teacher.

  • I don't have Internet or have limited data or access. Wifi hotspots for school devices are set up in Galva by parking in front of the elementary school and in Canton by parking over by the football stadium. If you have no way to get to these locations, contact your teacher or the school office to arrange an alternate way to complete assignments.

  • What if I'm feeling overwhelmed? If any student or parent feels overwhelmed by a certain class or with how to use the technology, please reach out to teachers first, and then the principal if needed. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the whole situation or by other life issues, our school's elementary advocate Cloe Hedlund and jr/sr high counselor Kristeen Thompson would be happy to help you. If you are in a potentially life-threatening situation, call 911. If you or someone you know is suicidal or in emotional distress, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

  • I am a parent/caregiver/youth who isn't sure how to handle things that have changed in my home. Where can I get help? Kansas Children's Service League’s Parent Helpline (1-800-CHILDREN) has offered a voice who will listen to callers’ concerns and provide help with simple questions or complex situations. Information, referrals and support are provided anonymously to parents, relatives, caregivers, youth and professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This line is designed to meet the needs of parents and caregivers who feel isolated and frustrated when trying to meet the challenges of raising children. Top reasons for calls to the Parent Helpline include basic parenting, child development, behavior management, questions about reporting child abuse and neglect, mental health, legal concerns and information about programs/services. Call the Parent Helpline at either 1-800-CHILDREN or 1-800-332-6378 for resources, referrals and other information.

Eligibility and Credit Policies:

  • Weekly Eligibility: 7th-12th grade students with an F in a class will be on the probation list for the first week with an F in a class and move to the ineligible list the next week if the grade doesn't improve.

  • Credit: 9th-12th grade students receive credit for classes by semester. If they fail a semester, they do not get credit. This could cause them to repeat a course if it's required to graduate.

  • KSHSAA Sports and Activities Eligibility: 7th-12th grade students are subject to the state's semester eligibility policy to participate in any sports or KSHSAA activities. Students must pass five new classes in a semester to be eligible for the following semester; incoming 7th grade and 9th grade are exempt from this rule. See KSHSAA policy below.

Junior/Senior High School Class Schedule Information:

  • Teachers should be communicating with parents and students to inform them of the plan to start learning remotely on Monday, March 30. It's important for parents and students to check email, and for students to check Google Classroom for information and updates.

  • 7th-12th grade students: CORE CLASSES will check in virtually as a group at a scheduled time and day once per week (twice for Comp 2 students). Please see the schedules below and know the times/dates you need to be online for your classes. If you cannot make a virtual check in or if you miss one, contact the teacher as soon as possible. ELECTIVE CLASSES will have assignments and instructions posted in email and/or Google Classroom, so check there often. If you do not have access to Internet or Google Classroom by phone, computer, or Chromebook, talk to the school or teacher about other options. If you have issues with your school-issued Chromebooks or chargers, email cgtech@usd419.org.
